Bacon Slab Cake →
Found on BaconUnwrapped. This looks amazing. It’s not actually bacon, just a cake that looks like bacon. No word on if it tastes like bacon. Bacon.

Why I failed at #365 and What's Next
I love the taking and posting a picture every day thing—-and I’m quite envious of the dedicated folks I know who manager to do it every single day. I can’t seem to quite dedicate myself to it just yet, which is discouraging. I really was happy with my early results, but felt bad when I wasn’t able to keep up.
On the plus side, one of the most enjoyable parts for me was...
Palm Pre! The 2-Week Review
This is reposted from the other blog I co-author, FajitaMonday
fajitamonday:
Ed Note: This was originally supposed to be a 1 week review, but I got farther in over my head with this than expected. I hope to add some future updates as the Pre progresses. —MtK
The waiting
For those of us who follow us on Twitter, you probably know that RP and myself “camped out” for the Palm Pre on June 6. ...

Tweets, Blogs and the Great American Roadtrip
In a little more than a week I’ll be undertaking that great, 20-something right of passage of the cross country drive. I’ll be heading out to Seattle and helping a friend move back in a drive that will take me through Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York and finally back to Vermont. In like 4 and a...

Sprint: NOW
I hate to admit it, but from time to time I see some form of advertising that is SO COOL that I just want in.
Sprint has hyped up it’s “NOW” network in advance of the Palm Pre release. Some of you may have seen the commercial below, one of a series, which depict in a very visual way all the things going on on the Sprint network at this exact moment:
Well, to connect to...

Pandora vs. Slacker - The final battle (for now)
As you know, I’m a technology geek. I love all things electronic, I’ve embraced Web 2.0, and can get incredibly picky about my day-to-day apps. As anyone who follows me on Twitter (which in itself was a challenge for me to embrace) knows that I’ve changed twitter clients on my BlackBerry about as often as I change my underwear. At the same time though, I’ve used Winamp...

My first BlackBerry theme
Okay, so I fail at Blog every day April.
Anyway! I created my first custom BlackBerry theme—there are a lot of nice themes out there, but I wanted one that appealed to me both visually and in terms of functionality.
Get it at this page, which is where I’ll be posting any other themes I create.

5 Common courtesies for walkers.
I’m not doing so hot at this Blog Everyday April thing—I owe 3 posts today, but by gum, I’ll do it. I’ll warn that today’s post serves little value other than for me to rant.
I’ve been doing some thinking lately, and while I’ve known to get road-ragey at times, there are things that pedestrians do that really piss me off—both when I’m...

I didn’t neglect my duties yesterday in “blog everyday April,” I had posted a rant about Best Buy over at fajitamonday.

CitiField: First Impressions
***Note: this was posted yesterday, so I haven’t failed at blog every day April, but I don’t know why it didn’t show. I think I saved it as a draft.***
Now that that’s out of the way, let’s talk about CitiField, the new home of the Mets. I made the journey there for Saturday’s game—one of two exhibition games in the new stadium against the Red Sox, and...

Job I wouldn't want.
Painting the Eiffel Tower.
It takes a team of 25 guys 18 months to apply 60 tons of paint to the Tower. They do this once every 7 years.

Blog April - Apr. 1
After a discussion with a friend the other night, it was decided that we would post on our blogs everyday for the month of April.
This post kicks it off.
While I suppose that this post is somewhat of a cop out, I assure you that I will post something in this space daily for the rest of the month. No foolin’!

Bailout for no failout?
So, it’s not often that I’d engage in a political rant on here, but at the moment I feel like I need to. I had read somewhere about someone whining to use federal bailout money to forgive student loan debt. Yea, we’d all like that.
But then I got to thinking.
You know, why not? Why not bailout the educated masses versus the auto companies? In fact, bailing out those...

Bachelor Chef: Blood Orange Chicken Stir Fry
So, if you’ve read this more than once, you can tell that a lot of what I cook is “jazz cooking,” in that, I cook based on things found around the house, and I’m not terribly bent on measurements, quantities, etc. I encourage you, the reader, to do the same. It adds a little variety to your recipe, makes it your own, and allows you to have a little more fun in the...

Bachelor Chef: Birds Eye Steamfresh
Okay, so—you’ve seen me post a handful of food items on here, and GENERALLY, I prefer fresh items, and nothing beats fresh corn on the cob. However, when you live in the northeast and you’rein the darkest parts of winter or the muddy slop of early spring, fresh vegetables aren’t too common—and if they are they’ve been imported from who knows where.
That said,...

BACK!
I apologize for the hiatus in posting. It was somewhat unintentional, combined with a week out of the office/town/timezone. I’ll be back to posting on a regular basis. For now, here’s a few tidbits: Traveling. I don’t think anything can generate such a polarized emotional response for me like traveling does. One minute it’s the greatest and most exciting thing in the...

Maple-Bacon Donut. Win!
There isn’t too much to say about this one, really. This bad-boy comes from Dinky Donuts. They take their donut (made from many local ingredients), top it with their maple caramel, and then crumble Vermont Smoke & Cure bacon on top.
Win.

I’m a big fan of James Kochalka’s American Elf webcomic. It’s sort of a daily journal into his life. I thought today’s was a blast, so I’ve reposted it here.

Whoa
Wow…amazingly if you do something right for even a minute, people start whining when you stop doing it! Of course, I’m referring to this blog. I guess a lot of people have liked the new “Bachelor Chef” series of posts, and I need to update more regularly.
Here’s a few quick items:
I’m considering installing a comments system. I was really, really...

The Bachelor Chef: Hand Cut French Fries
Surprisingly, I got some feedback and questions about the fries in yesterday’s post, so I decided to do a quick writeup on how they were made. Quite honestly, I wasn’t planning on including them yesterday, because they were somewhat experimental, but I have to say, I’m quite happy.
So, I started with yukon gold potatoes. Their size and flavor works very well for this—a...

The Bachelor Chef: Steak Pocket & Fries
So, here’s the lunch I made myself today. I’ve been playing with a steak wrap for a few weeks now, and I think I’ve finally settled on my preferred combination: Marinated thin steak (you choose)
Red, Yellow or Orange pepper
Onion
Lettuce
Shredded fresh Mozz
A-1
The preparation is pretty quick. I cut up the veggies and put them on the grill for a few:
Afterwards, I...

Sam Roberts Band @ Higher Ground 2/20
Yes! I’m a big Sam Roberts Band fan, and they’ll be coming to Higher Ground on Feb. 20th. Count me in!
I’ve seen Sam Roberts Band three times, and each in a very different setting. The first was at the Place des Arts in Montreal as an opener for the Tragically Hip—a large theatre-style venue that seats around 3,000. The second time I saw the band was at SARSstock in...

I don't do resolutions
As the title says, I don’t really “do” New Years resolutions—in a way, I feel like you’re setting yourself up for failure. That said, here’s my List of things I could do better in 2009 (but aren’t resolutions):
Continue cutting costs. I’d talked about this one in a previous post, and it’s certainly something I can continue to do. On a plus...

Electrical engineering for beginners
This past week I had a few neat experiences to do something I haven’t done in quite some time: tinkering.
There are many great blogs and websites out there where folks post how-tos and gadgets of things that they’ve made/built/invented/improved upon, but lately I’ve lacked the time, intuition and supplies to do much playing around on my own.
The two tasks I undertook this...
